Kirk Hanley

I began my career as an engineer at General Motors and then, deciding I needed a change, made the bold career move to become an engineer at Ford Motor Company. From there it was an easy and natural transition into a career as a comedy performer, writer, and improviser.

For over fifteen years, I was part of the world famous comedy theatre, The Second City, working as a performer, writer, improviser, producer, director, teacher, and workshop facilitator. I co-wrote and performed in six sketch comedy revues on the Second City Detroit Mainstage, as well as three national touring plays for Second City Theatricals.

For five years I was the Head Writer for Second City Works in Chicago. I wrote and performed humorous short video content, as well as created and presented live entertainment and workshops for corporate clients.

Over my career, I’ve also performed in children’s theatre, outreach programs for teens, industrial stage shows, improvisational comedy revues, television and radio commercials, and corporate training films. And I’ve written one-act plays for dinner theatre, been a contributing writer for The Onion News Network, and self-published two books.

In more recent years, I’ve freelanced as a content writer. I’ve written 500+ video scripts, blogs, case studies, and white papers for a wide variety of clients in industries such as manufacturing, construction, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and finance.
